Highlights from today:
-We started a new story, Daniel and the Lion's Den. We are focusing on the theme that God keeps us safe just like He kept Daniel safe in the den. Next week we will make a lion craft to take home to help us remember the story and the theme.
-We focused on the social skill of caring today. I read the book When I Care About Others. After reading the book, we took some time to talk about how we can show other people that we care about them. Here were our responses:
Give them a hug....Kayla
Care for them when they are sick....Stephanie
Give them a compliment and give them a hug....Elizabeth
Share with a friend....Avery
Give them a hug....Xavier
Share with them....Brady
Take care of them when they are hurt...Asher
Give them hugs...Olivia
Give them a toy when they are sad and a big monster hug...Adam
Give them kisses...Kenzie
Give them a strawberry band-aid when they are hurt...Ella
Give them a hug...Derek
Play with them when they are sad...Sarah
If someone falls down, you need to take care of them...Logan
Next week we will turn these responses into a book!
The book talked about being friendly, sharing, and saying nice things to friends. We talked about compliments and when someone says "Good morning" or "Hello", we should say "Hello" or "Good morning" back to that person.
One of the other things that we have been talking about is what we should say when we want to take a break from a friend. You might hear your child say, "Susie says she is not my friend." As a parent, I hated to hear that when my daughter was in school, but in preschool that probably doesn't mean what you think it means.
Your child is still learning how to express how they are feeling or what they want to happen in social situations. "You are not my friend" is what they say a lot of times when they don't want to play with someone at the time, or sit by them at the time. I have started to use the phrase, "I would like to take a break, I can sit (play) with you another time." when I am talking to the kids when this situation comes up. It is totally acceptable to not want to play with the same person all the time, and I want the children to know that, but the right words have to be used! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child's social development.
Here are some pictures from today:
We read, Go Away Big Green Monster and today we made monsters like in the book! :) First we put paint on the paper and folded it over and smoothed the paint out to make the face!
Then we used our scissors to cut eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair (optional) to make our monster.
