Pictures for Feb. 2

We had a fun Thursday!  We started off the day creating snowflakes using unusual objects to make prints (it seemed odd to make these snowflakes today!)

Some of us worked on our small motor skills and cut out pictures from magazine to make a giant group collage.  There was also a lot of collaboration happening and discussion about where items should go on the board.

Some of us started to figure out the weaving process.   I had baskets and ribbons out to see what they would do with them.  Some of us tied knots, some of us were able to "sew", a few of us started to figure out how to do it.  We will look at this again! :)

Then I had a new "game" out for us to try.  I had a checked cloth and some dominoes and small jewels. The students picked a domino out of the basket, counted the dots on the domino, and then had to get that many jewels out and place them on the check cloth!  Oh the many math skills that we were working on-counting, one-to-one correspondence, etc.!  There were some dominoes with lots of dots and some with a few so it worked on all levels!

She is sorting and making an aesthetically pleasing design!

 Ta-da!  Great job of sorting!

Working together to count dots!  One would count and then the other one would check!  Great social skills activity!

We also worked on writing our name today!  Some of us used wood pieces to write the letters while some of us worked with Mrs. Robertson to write it on paper.

"Look I made a pattern with lines teacher!"

 Working on the collage!

During Jesus Time, I read "Jesus Feeds 5000" by Mary Manz Simon.  She does a great job of telling Bible stories with simple and enjoyable language that the kids love.

After reading the story, I used the slinky to help illustrate the point of how there was enough food for everyone!
Then we went on a Lion Hunt!  I read this book to the students and they loved it!  There is also a book about going on a bear hunt!  I told the students we could read that next week!  There a lot of placement words in the story-over, under, through.  Good practice for them!

Looking ahead!

Writing his name and drawing his family portrait!

Phew!  Another great day at school! :)
